It was a rainy night going to Dusit Thani Hotel. It was traffic everywhere. It took me a 1 1/2 hour ride to get their form Manila. So obviously I was super hungry. Basix is a Filipino Fusion(?) buffet. It had some Filipino, Chinese, Indian, continental, meat and seafood grilling area. The desert area was quiet good looking but kinda small. There was no time for the pictures of the display. I would have died of hunger If I didn't get the food.
My 1st plate
I already ate 2 sushis so that I could survive death. They were quiet bad. Cold and lacks a lot of flavor even with soy sauce and some wasabi. The seafood salad mix was gruesome as well. It was the same taste all around. You would think that the shrimp and fish would have a different texture and taste. The tandoori lamb saved my 1st plate. It was soft and cooked perfectly. No blood and no burnt parts. The spiciness was just right. There was no smell of lamb. (Lambs usually have a strong smell when not cooked properly)
Dos Platos
I had to get reset my taste buds from the soy sauce and spice with a little pasta. I don't think that it worked that much since if I'm not mistaken I could still taste the spiciness while eating the pasta. I liked the pasta. It was not overcooked. ( You cannot overcook pasta like this unless you're an idiot). Smoked salmon was good! I didn't use any lemon anymore. I liked the salmony taste without the acidity of the lemon.
3, 4 ,5
Grilled salmon, well done beef (i forgot the part), lamb chops
I didn't finish all of them. These food items were for sharing. I could have finished all of them but again I was sick! ( I hate being sick, my body becomes a drama queen. No not in the nether regions)
I got these three dishes together. I just had salmon so I decided to continue my salmon fest. They were quite good. It was cooked all around. No weird uncooked fleshy area. I used some lemon just to taste salmon with lemon. I did not like.
The beef was hard but maybe because it got a little bit cold. The gravy (not pictured) did not help. It was like eating soft leather. I could taste the saltiness of the gravy and the hardness of the beef with every bite. It was quite disappointing. I just wasted some calories and tummy space for hard meat and salty sauce.
The grilled lamb chops was the hero again. It was really freaking good! Even if the chef chopped the middle so it would cook faster because it was so fat it tasted really good! There was no smell and I even used some green mint sauce(not pictured) with it. I went back and got another plate of these lamb chops and some tandoori lamb. I didn't have time to take some pictures because when they went down on the table it went to my mouth instantly.
Desert
Mango Crepe with Vanilla ice cream and (supposedly) a dash of chocolate sauce
I was expecting mega tasty crepeness when I got this dessert. I was expecting it to be like one of the crepe store crepes. And sh*t, it was not. (Pardon my french, I censor every bad word in my food blog) The crepe was too thin. It was like a lumpia wrapper. Even if it was freshly made it tasted weird. The mangoes.... very depressing. It was not a wee bit fresh at all. It was so bad. It had a syrupy taste. There was not freshness to it at all. Vanilla ice cream and a little (supposedly) chocolate should compliment the mango and crepe but you cannot complement canned fruit and badly mixed crepe.
I also got some other deserts. I didn't mind taking pictures of them because they were all forgetable. I already forgot what they tasted like.
Overall the lamb chops was the only food that kept me from going home early. I ate so much lamb that I think it was the equivalent of a baby lamb. So if you are hungry for some lamb, go here!
Was the hungry man happy? Not really.
